Language support keeps disappearing from time to time.
I suspect this happens after “bigger” updates to Cinnamon etc.

I usually notice when dates in Thunderbird and other details start to look whacky.

This is how mintlocale looks like in the “languages once again lost” state; notice the missing icons:

In those cases I have to manually reinstall the locale that went missing;
i.e. I have to open mintlocale, click on the “Install/Remove” button, press “Add…” in the install/remove window and then browse the list for the locale to add, confirm this action and wait.

I am suffering from what I believe to be the same issue. My English, United States language pack gets removed automatically once in a while, leaving only English, Denmark in the list. This breaks many things system wide, one example being gnome-terminal not longer being able to open (!), but instead failing while printing these errors:

# Locale not supported by C library.
# Using the fallback 'C' locale.
# Error constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.Terminal: Timeout was reached

My journal is full of similar errors. Some applications are able to recover, and some break completely.

It happened again for me the other day, and I suspect the trigger was this batch of system updates:

I suspect it might be triggered by the libc update, as I noticed that component being updated when it broke previously. Maybe it regenerates some locale related stuff, but for some reason ignores the additional packs installed by mintlocale? But this is just me guessing...

(EDIT: I am now trying uncommenting en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8 in /etc/locale.gen. No idea if it will help, but I am trying it out...)
