AWS now supports routing rules on application load balancers to allow for automatic upgrading for http requests to https requests. For load balancers that are otherwise only configured to accept https traffic, current http requests just spin until the timeout. If we are able to configure automatic upgrades, then http requests will simply get redirected to the https endpoint.
