use default config, No matter what button I press, it doesn't respond.

Have you enabled the Accessibility setting required? Slate doesn't appear to do this right now in Mojave.

To do this, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab > Accessibility and enable Slate from the menu

Thanks @lijy83, I had a same problem. Thanks to your comment, I could enable Slate.
