Hi! Are you logged in to the graphical environment as root? Or did you log in with an ordinary user and then use sudo or something else to become root?
Some things that might help debugging:
Please run ego -vvv ./Linphone-5.1.2.AppImage and post all the logs.
What's the value of $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR?
Run ls -la $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/.pulse and post output
I had the same thing, it turned out that the ~/.config/pulse directory was accessible only to the root user. I fixed it with the command sudo chown -R 1000:$(whoami) pulse. And then the ego command started working.
