how to use notification script?

hi there, i am trying to get a notification script to work like this:

--notification-script=/bin/bash /opt/scripts/sendMessage.sh 'reautenticate'

(it runs a script which notifies me via telegram that i need to reauthenticate)

but the script does not run it even if i need to reauth. Where is my understanding of this functionwrong?

I think script is supposed to run only at first authentication when MFA code is needed, not at reauthentication (I don't use it, just scanned the code briefly)
