Perhaps we should show the bleeding edge, unapproved version of a guide once you've started making changes. (Or maybe all the time? Or maybe we need this switch in the app?)
Alternatively, we could add a flag to the API which indicates that there is an unpatrolled version of the guide. We can use that to notify the user of a newer version that they can optionally load and view.
@marczych and I talked about this behavior and decided:
When a user views a guide that has pending revisions, there should be a green bar at the top of the guide between the Step 1, Step 2, etc header, and the top header (which contains the logo, guide title, and edit button). Let's use the same green as we do on the site, and the same verbiage that we do on the site. It should function as a toggle that lets you view the newest unpatrolled changes, or vie the most recent accepted version. The bar should be closeable, and once closed, it should stay closed until the user views the guide again.
