Gmail notification issue

Hi there,

This is Arshad.

When i am doing configuration for url, i added gmail notification alert. When i am running the monika, i am getting this error. please find the yaml file below and error.

Gmail worked for me with no issues. Do you have quotation mark (') around your email and password (just in case)?
Also i've used an "app password" for monika to use and not my gmail password. See if that works for you.

I am still getting same error, so i stopped working on it. Can you please send me a sample yaml file for the gmail notification.
i am not sure what i am missing.

Sure, I'm using plain vanilla config something like this:

  - id: smtp-maitrap
    type: smtp
    data:
      recipients: ['[email protected]']
      hostname: smtp.mailtrap.io
      port: 2525
      username: 'username123'
      password: 'password123'

  - id: smtp-google
    type: smtp
    data:
      recipients: ['[email protected]']
      hostname: smtp.gmail.com
      port: 587
      username: '[email protected]'
      password: '123 123 123 123'

As a check, maybe try mailtrap.io, or some other similar service just to see if you can get through. The above settings works for me. Hope this helps.

Yes above credentials which you are using are wrong one, i send screenshot to you by putting wrong credentials, but i tested with correct credentials only (username and app password). still i am getting error. Can you send me a sample configuration screenshot which is working for you.

Note: Is there anything i need to do in my gmail settings.?

1. Can we know what version of Monika are you using?
2. How are you installing monika? ix: npm i, or binary?
3. What OS/platform are you using monika on? desktop/cloud? what versions/releases?

Also try this smtp setting:

Hi, I am also receiving this error: failed to send message using smtp... invalid theme.
Initially I used Chocolately to install Monika (1.16.2) on Windows. But I have also installed (1.16.2) on CentOS 9 Stream using both NPM and manual installation. I manually installed Monika (1.7.2) on Windows. On all installation, I received this same error.

I was able to get smtp notifications to send on NPM and Docker installations.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you elaborate on what the difference between your failed and successful attempts were? What changes to your configuration, if any, between the two. Where was your success, on linux or window? or both using npm and docker?

First I evaluated Monika by installing it on Windows. Per the documentation, I used Chocolatey in Windows Powershell to install Monika and run. I used the config generator on the website and kept it simple; a GET request of URL with assertion: response.status != 200. I initially had notifications set to type: desktop. Once I got familiar with Monika, I installed it on a CentOS 9 Stream server. I downloaded the latest version of Monika from the release page and performed a manual installation. I used the same configuration: GET request of URL with assertion: response.status != 200, but this time configured notifications for type: smtp with host: smtp.google.com, port, and credentials. This is where I received the error message: “Failed to send message using smtp, please check your smtp notification config. Message: You have specified an invalid theme.” I attempted the smtp configuration on the Windows installation but received the same error message. Other smtp services resulted in the same error message. I also tried an internal smtp server. The only reference to this error I could find was in this Github discussion. I thought it interesting that you couldn’t reproduce the error and assumed that you were probably using Node.JS or Docker; not Windows or a manual installation on Linux. I installed Monika with Node.JS before on a virtual desktop but didn’t test smtp notifications. I installed it again on CentOS 9 Stream server and configured notifications to my internal smtp server and it sent successfully. I desired Monika to run in the background and decided to try the Docker installation. That’s what I have running now and smtp notifications are sending successfully using my internal smtp server.
