A formatted ASCII file with different sections containing configuration parameters for:

System configuration (antenna names/locations/other parameters)
Writer configuration (hardware network connections, number of readers/partitions to create, region size)
reader configuration (where to write out processed data blobs, whether to write to disk/network/monitor)

Another configuration file can be per observation, and can contain:

collator configuration (what to do with processed data, e.g. write to disk, display configuration

Files can be some standard format (xml?) with a library for parsing it (Don't write your own parsers!)
