Makes chrome lag on M1

Hi @helmus !
I really like your extension but on my M1 mac, it slows down loading my company's github pages when activated.
Do you have any idea what could cause this? Is there any hook that could be run asynchronously?
I'm new to chrome extension development but still would be very happy to create a PR.

How much does it slow down and approximately at which point during the page load ?

It slows down especially when I switch between the "Conversation" and "Files Changed" tabs in a PR on the Enterprise GitHub.
I have experienced the lags when clicking on either of these tabs (but not every time).
When the lag occurs, I can still move the cursor (but it stays in the 👆🏻 shape) and I can't click anything else on this page.
I can still navigate to other tabs however.
