I read somewhere that you can be a one-person team; was that correct?

It depends on how you interpret this issue, I'm not sure myself: #82

@daurnimator, we've updated the Terms of Service, so your project is now approved (we also changed "teams" to "projects"). Please read the new ToS. Welcome to Gratipay!

So does that mean I should create multiple projects owned by me?
It's not exactly clear.

You can create multiple projects if you want, but it's not necessary as long as you document which things you are accepting donations for on your Gratipay profile. It's definitely simpler for us if you have a specific website/landing page for each project, but it's not an absolute requirement.

Examples:

  • Right now you list "Lua Programming" and link to your website, where I can see links to your work with Lua. This qualifies as your "product or service."
  • If you all of a sudden changed your Gratipay profile and website to say "Donate money so I can buy a motorcycle," that wouldn't qualify as providing a product or service to anyone.
  • If you changed your profile to say "I work on JavaScript projects" but don't have anything related to JS on your website, that's relatively suspicious and would give us reason to question your presence on Gratipay.

Please bear with us as we get rolling with the new ToS. Hope this helps.
