Right now the embeddable widget is just one button that takes the viewer to your Gittip profile page. It should be more interactive on your own site with options to tip and probably some explanatory text. See also #175 about making the widget a script instead of an iframe.

Original: I still don't see the tip buttons once I show a widget to a viewer.

Via HN. Asked for an example ...

I use this url as the source for an iframe: https://www.gittip.com/arekzb/widget.html

I see a single 'gittip' button that takes a user to this page : https://www.gittip.com/arekzb/. Could it be that I'm missing configuration setup step ?

No, it's a really simple widget. Just one button. The button text changes based on whether the user is logged in and whether they tip you. Here's the variants:

  • Gittip—person is not logged into Gittip or doesn’t tip you
  • 3.00—person tips you; shows current gift amount
  • You!—your own button

(This is documented on your profile page.)

@arekzb I've changed this ticket to be about making the widget more featureful.

The user will only see the option to tip if they have a gittip.com active session in their browser then,- hence only other members of gittip can tip ?

Non-Gittip users should get a message "Sign in to tip this person" once they click through. No?
