Welcome to the Wiki of Simple File Manager, an intuitive component for creating download centers in Joomla!™, created by Giovanni Mansillo. If this is your first time hearing about Simple File Manager, take a look to the Simple File Manager page on the Joomla Extension Directory!
Let's start installing Simple File Manager via the "Install from url" procedure:
- access to the backend of your Joomla! website and go to Extensions > Manage > Install
- active the "Install from URL" tab and paste the following url in the Install from URL field:
http://service.simplefilemanager.eu/delivery/get.php - click on the "Check and Install" button and wait the completion of the installation procedure.

Simple File Manager comes with no default categories then you need to create at least a new one after component installation. Categories can give you more options for structuring your documents.
To add a new category go to Components > Simple File Manager > Categories, then click on the green New button in the toolbar.
Categories don't have a lot of properties, just type a title and press the Save button for finishing. If you plan to have many categories, you can write a brief description for each of them.
Once you created at least one category, you can start uploading documents moving to Components > Simple File Manager > Documents.
Click on the green "New" button in the toolbar, then type a document title, choose a category and select the document you want to upload. You'll be noticed in case of the selected file exceeds the maximum file size supported by your server.
Finally, click on the green "Save" button in order to start uploading the document. Saving task will take some time depending on uploaded file size.
Now it's time to show documents to the world. The most suitable way to make your download center reachable from the frontend is to create a menu item related to Simple File Manager. You can link a single document, an entire category or a list of all the available categories.
