Synchronized with IH
Code: BEO

Fuzzy name search in GBIF publisher:
None

Number of linked occurrences: 0 (https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search?advanced=1&institution_key=da6c7fff-b299-4ece-8cbf-40f759e4e610)

  1. Find out if the information is complete and up to date:
  • Check the homepage if available or google the institution name in the country. Check if all collections for that institution are represented in GRSciColl.
  • Add missing collections/information to the institution on GRSciColl directly in the registry. If some collections are digitized, put the information in the GRSciColl Notes field.
  1. Check if the data is also in GBIF:
  • If there are GBIF occurrence records linked, check from which dataset/publisher they come. Is the institution a registered publisher? Or do the records come from a third party publisher? Are all the collections in GRSciColl also in GBIF? (add comments to the issue)
  • If no record is linked to GRSciColl, look for the institution name on the GBIF list of publishers. Is there any corresponding publisher? Have they published any data? (add comments to the issue)
  • If data has been published on GBIF but isn’t linked to GRSciColl, notify Marie (tag ManonGros), she can link the data.
  • Translate outcome of your checks into labels. See guidelines here: https://github.com/gbif/collection-mobilization#readme

  • I deleted the mastersouce (i.e. the connection with Index Herbariorum) for the institution to be able to update the name, URL, contacts, and codes, etc, at the level of the museum. New InstitutionCode: NHMBEO (based on website acronym).
  • Do not use NHMB as institution code because it is associated with another museum in Bucarest: https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?institutionCode=NHMB
  • Could not find a ROR ID (used strings: 'Natural History Museum in Belgrade' and 'Prirodnjački muzej u Beogradu').
  • There are UNLINKED occurrences from the Herbarium - Natural History Museum | BEO published via third party publisher (European Nucleotide Archive (EMBL-EBI)) within the dataset: INSDC Sequences. Note, however, that in the latter dataset, the link should be based on the Catalogue Number, e.g: "BEO 201206/13"
  • There are 3 occurrences linked to the institution using the code "Natural History Museum in Belgrade".
  • The museum is not a registered publisher (as of 17.10.2023).
  • No data on the website about other collections but the museum has specialists in the following fields: Ichtyology, Ornithology, Mammals, Mycology, Herpetology, Entomology, Palaeozoology, Palaeobotany (https://nhmbeo.rs/organizaciona-struktura/), which probably means they have also collections.

Mobilization plan

  • Contact the Head of the Biology Department to ask whether they have also other collections
  • Contact the botanists regarding the herbarium
  • Contact the Hemiptera specialist regarding the entomological collection
  • Contact the paleontologists

Linking occurrences to the Institution

Code = NHMBEO (main Institution code) and BEO (alternative code for the Herbarium)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using this institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&institution_code=BEO&institution_code=NHMBEO

Result:
03.01.2024: 0 occurrences

Step 2: Are occurrences using this codes going to be automatically mapped to the institution? If, yes, is the institution matched the correct one?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?institutionCode=NHMBEO
Yet, the institution code match --> No manual mapping is needed!
