While there is a package in Trusty (14.04), the oldest one I can find is in Quantal (12.10) located in Launchpad.
Maybe this script could compile it from source?
Or perhaps we could host pre-compiled binaries and the script could just pull and use those?
I vote compilation, but either way, the best command to use would be nyancat -ns -f 50, which would not show a counter, not set the title, and run for 50 frames (5 seconds in this case).

I'm reopening this (I won't give up!).

There's a bash version now, should we use it?
It plays music, but that could be disabled by just commenting a few lines.

Just realize that we run trusty now. We could just sudo apt-get install nyancat.
