The GitHub Community Meetups program is an exciting opportunity for passionate developers to make a lasting impact on the lives of developers, students, educators, and enthusiasts in their local tech community. As a GitHub Community Leader, you will have the unique opportunity to connect people, share knowledge, and promote collaboration, ultimately driving innovation and strengthening the bonds within your tech ecosystem.
GitTogethers are local gatherings where developers can connect, share knowledge, and learn from each other in a friendly and inclusive environment. These events are organized by dedicated volunteers like you, who are passionate about promoting GitHub and fostering the growth of the open-source community in their cities.
As a GitHub Community Leader, you will:
- 💡 Inspire developers by sharing stories, experiences, and conversations that motivate and encourage them.
- 📝 Maintain your local chapter's Meetup.com page and city repository with up-to-date information and resources.
- 📅 Organize engaging monthly events that cater to the interests and needs of your community.
- 🙌 Create a welcoming atmosphere where all attendees feel included and valued while providing high-quality technical content.
- 🤝 Collaborate with co-organizers to foster shared leadership and delegate tasks effectively.
- 🎫 Manage event logistics, including setting dates, finding venues, ordering refreshments, and ensuring proper signage and technical setup.
- 📣 Promote your meetup through community outreach, tech blogs, newsletters, and social media.
- 🎥 Share technical content, such as talks, demos, and slides, online after the event to extend its impact.
As a GitTogether Community Leader, you are a technology expert who passionately shares knowledge with the community. You serve as a role model, mentor, and guide to others, committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community that welcomes all. We expect Community Leaders to exemplify our values and display a positive community spirit by conducting themselves with respect and restraint whenever they engage with others within and outside the Program.

Respect: Always treat others with respect and refrain from disrespectful behavior, including threats, harassment, stalking, abuse, slurs, profanity, personal attacks, sexual remarks or innuendos, physical violence, public speculation about others, and any other behavior that GitTogether deems inconsistent with the Community Meetups program.

Authenticity: Do not impersonate a GitHub employee, agent, manager, host, or another user.

Lawfulness: Refrain from engaging in illegal or offensive activities and do not publish, post, distribute, or disseminate defamatory, infringing, obscene, or other unlawful material or discussion.

Accountability: As a Community Leader, you are fully responsible and liable for anything you say or do, including actions taken based on advice or information received online or elsewhere, your conduct as a community leader, and interactions with other Community Leaders and the general public.

Integrity: Do not engage in libel or slander against GitHub or other persons or entities.

Confidentiality: Respect and maintain the confidentiality of any non-public information you may access during your participation in the Program.

Professionalism: Sexual harassment, including unwelcome sexual advances, inappropriate gender-based jokes, excessive romantic attention, offering preferential treatment in exchange for sexual favors, unwelcome physical contact, sharing sexually explicit content, and using sexually degrading words, is strictly prohibited.

By participating in the GitTogether Community Meetups program, you agree to abide by this GitHub Event Code of Conduct.
Community leaders serve a term of 12 months, with the option for re-appointment for an additional term. The minimum tenure is 6 months, and the maximum is 24 months (two terms). This policy ensures a balance between leadership continuity and the infusion of fresh perspectives from new leaders.
