Suggested Improvements:

Start with a list of pre-requisites.

New users should never use git. Download a "recent" tarfile (don't give an explicit version here, that would require updating whenever we come out with a new release, which we don't have time for).

Instructions given are for configuring bash and only work for bash; what about users of other shells? Setup for Windows could be interesting...

Maybe we can have URLs (permalinks) for .../latest and .../stable - that way any new version just requires to change the permalink and all other docs on the site don't need to be updated.
