ARM968 uses

  • 40mW of power
  • Executes 200,000,000 instructions per second
  • Using 0.000 000 000 2 joules per instruction

Making it 25,000,000,000 times better than the baby see

I don't have one in my head - plus there are many varieties of ARM (etc.) these days.

  • The closest I can think of might be SpiNNaker2 (not SoA but not bad as 22 nm). A processor there might deliver 200 MIPS (they can run faster but...)
  • The chip is ~100 mm^2 and has ~150 processors, so the area, inc. 128 KB RAM will be ~0.6 mm^2 (there is other stuff).
  • Power - don't know but probably 1-2 W so say 10 mW/processor so ~50 pJ/op.

That's another 40x.

Doesn't sound enough, really for 20 years.

OTOH If we say an x86 my back-of-envelope suggests ~2nJ/op (same as ARM 2000) so maybe it's about right?
