Might be in a position to add a new mirror #74
Comments
Hey, thanks for your offer! I appreciate it. I think additional mirrors would be great, especially if they are located outside of europe. Where would yours be? The size of a distri release is currently ≈66 GiB. Transferring it via rsync took a little over 10 minutes with a Gigabit connection. I’ll work on a write-up like the one you mentioned. Most importantly, we should have a list of mirror operators and ideally a (semi-)automated way to get them updated. |
The mirror would be in Asia (Singapore to be more precise)! There are still plenty of admin hoops to jump through, but we already have Debian, Arch Linux, Arch Linux ARM, CentOS, Fedora, and Raspbian mirrors + a few custom snapshots for other distros. I think I'll be able to push Distri through now that I know I can get the ball rolling. PS: Don't be afraid to boast a little in the write-up. No one needs to know it's you writing it. The people I talked to informally got way more attentive when i3 and your Debian maintainer status were brought up. |
Singapore sounds great! I put up https://distr1.org/mirrors/ with what I think are useful infos. Please let me know if anything’s missing. |
Just keeping you posted here: Admin is being a bit slow and might take some convincing. I think I'll just put the mirror up on my personal server sometime next week. |
Okay, thanks for the update! |
Just shot you an email with some good news! Letting you know here in case it lands in your spam folder or something 😄 |
Is this something you would be interested in? I don't want to do so without your approval seeing as it might place undue stress on a project that's still in its early stages.
If, on the other hand, you are interested in something like this, a write-up like say Manjaro's would probably be very helpful in getting others to put mirrors up as well.
