  • Operating System: Alpine Linux/postmarkertOS / sway /sxmo

  • Delta Chat Version: v.1.48.0 installed via flathub

  • Expected behavior: fit and refresh on mobile / small screens

  • Actual behavior:
Deltachat flickers and refreshes only the top left third of the screen. It makes it impossible to use on linuxmobile. I can not even register it.

  • Screenshots:

What is the resolution of the device? Are websites displayed as expected with Chrome?

Sway
1080x2246 @ 60 Hz
Scale Factor 3.0

tested chromium from flathub, works fine, no flickering or displaying issues:

This bug seems to be a likely duplicate of #4214 and it's an upstream issue found here: electron/electron#44347

Sadly, the Electron people are still waiting for it to be reproduced with a simpler application, which is hard to come by on postmarketOS since by default they provide glibc binaries which for electron, even gcompat can't run. Since somebody is looking to make a flatpak of a simple example app, hopefully this will be solved soon.

I suggest you go to electron/electron#44347 and file a friendly comment that you are affected as well, so that they get a better scope of the problem.

I forgot to mention, there's also a workaround available here if you're using DeltaChat via flatpak.

thank you so much for your precise explanation of the cause of the issue!
🚀

running it with:
nohup bash -c "flatpak run chat.delta.desktop -- --devmode"&

as a temporary workaround does the trick for now.
