Thank you for doing that comparison! I will look into this as soon as possible. |
@Fareplay1: thanks indeed! I perform similar checks on a regular basis,
checking for duplicate iata, icao, local_ref - but only for my
self-limited territory of Europe.
@ALL: a few thoughts about IATA codes. For one, the official source for
this information is at
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/ . Further,
IATA seem to be in the process of cleaning them up, very many fields had
IATA codes assigned without any reason, there never being or having been
or having been intended any commercial air transport. QRA was one
example, it stood for EBZR Zoersel, a NATO reserve field created in the
early Cold War years.
My last point might raise controverse: as some of you may have observed,
I have renamed quite a few fields from "XXX airport" to "XXX airfield".
I know that especially in North America it is common to call every
aviation terrain an "airport", however in other places the term is
limited to the big places, where airliners fly. I find support on WP:
"An *airport* is an aerodrome <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerodrome>
with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport." So I do
check for inappropriate use of the "airport" naming, and the presence or
not of an IATA code is a strong indicator. Again, limiting myself to my
European hunting grounds.
Greetings to all, and keep up the good work!

Hi,
I did a cross-check of the database against other sources

Could you please take a look at this file?
Moreover, the following airports have duplicate IATA entries:

MPT
LPE
LMC
