Specification of Dynamic Text Book files

Dynamic Text Book (= DTB) files allow for the creation of text-based RPG games.

Syntax

DTB files contain a couple of commands that specify how the game should be. It defines the possible actions that the player can choose in order to travel through the game. It also defines the text that the player will read from panel to panel (= from slide to slide).

Story

Specification

* STORY Title, unique-identifier

Description

A story defines a slide on which an action takes place. It could be anything: from the description of a landscape to the dialogue of a non player character.

A story can be created within DTB files by writing a line starting with =* STORY =. These lines are read by the DTB parser as a headline meaning that the following lines will be associated to a story.

Story lines contain the title of the story, as it should be displayed in-game to the player. They contain as well an identifier which must uniquely identify the story. Following is an example of a story line:

* STORY The green forest, the-green-forest
