@geekgod (Karunakar Sir's) suggestion:
Pull in existing marathi localisation in other projects like KDE, Mozilla etc.
These translations are typically in .po format.
The .ts file of QGIS can be converted to .po
Then, existing translations of recurring phrases like "Save Project As" can be pulled in from other projects. And then for translation exercise we only have the remainder phrases to deal with, stuff that is in QGIS and not in the other OSs/softwares.
Method: Grab all marathi PO files from GNOME & KDE repos.
$ pocompendium ../marathi-gnome.po .po (run inside dir containing gnome po files )
$ pocompendium ../marathi-kde.po messages//* (run inside mr/ tree of kde repo)
$ pocompendium Marathi-All.po marathi-gnome.po marathi-kde.po
$ ts2po -i qgis_mr.ts -o qgis-mr.po
$ ts2po -i qgis_en.ts -o qgis-en.po
qgis-mr.po is incomplete marathi ts file from QGIS repo. Same for qgis-en.po
now merge translations, this will try to find exact matches and fill in qgis-mr.po using translations from Marathi-All.po with qgis-en.po as template.
$ msgmerge -o qgis-marathi-18mar.po qgis-mr.po qgis-en.po -C Marathi-All.po
There is an alternate method which will give cleaner results. Use Lokalize tool in Linux. Create a marathi project, then import all marathi gnome+kde files. Use translation memory option to create a database. Then try to translate qgis-mr.po using the Lokalize interface . It will provide suggestions for strings based on marathi translations in TM database. I will try this step and revert back if it gave better results.
