Based on discussions to integrate the validation and datastore services, the severities would be determined at file and activity or organisatiion level, according to these proposed levels:

  • critical: XML and schema validation errors or deprecated IATI version (file level). Files with critical messages will not be included in the datastore and applications should not process them either.
  • error: severe problems not matching the mandatory IATI rules. An activity or organisation with errors will be available in the datastore when querying all available data. Applications may choose to not process the activity or organisation.
  • warning: major issues not matching IATI guidelines. The datastore will process the data for the activity or organisation and applications should too.
  • improvement: minor issues based on best practices. The datastore will process the data for the activity or organisation and applications should too.
  • information: possible issues or alerts for situations that may require review or indicate adherence to best practices. The datastore will process the data for the activity or organisation and applications must too.
