Are there any current projects that would implement this/an esp8266 to handle controllers for a PC-based retro console experience?
I'm envisaging something that would power on/wake from sleep (via USB, somewhat skin to the Microsoft 360 dongles) and power off (via SIGTERM or sleep?) with a chime to help create a more 'proper' console-like experience for those of us with retro PCs/HTPCs in the living room without having to reach for keyboards and the like.
A couple ofwould-be-nices would be setting controller order IDs on 360/PS3/Wii/Switch controllers, or changing the lightbar colour on newer DS controllers, but honestly just being able to on-and-off the PC from the couch with a controller would be a start, Steam/RetroPie could take care of the ordering but it would probably be nice to just pass through the SDL devices with the ordering being done based on who powered up first.
I'm not sure if something like this already exists, but if it has it has defeated my googlefu. This project does seem to be right up this alley, though.
