I saw that Send SMS and receiving a report has been approved. It would be valuable to have an API that would enable receiving SMS messages as well, especially for opt-out use cases and also the use of CRMs for chats.

Sorry I did not check the guidelines of this working group before sending my suggestion. I created a profile in the group.
Regarding my ask, as I am not a member, I was just wondering if there would be any interest by any member to move this idea forward, but I am happy to help clarify it.
In order to allow messages to be set back definitely a phone number needs to be registered so Jan is correct.
Having acknowledged that, I believe the right ask is to have an API to register phone numbers or at least internally check if the phone is registered before sending the message to that phone number/virtual MSISDN.
However, as already mentioned in the Send SMS proposal, pre-requisite for using this API is that SMS Sender application / enterprise (or customer) needs to onboard itself with the access provider before using this API. Can't we have the same pre-requisite for receiving SMS?
