Standardize stop amenity information and create a single source database that is accurate, maintained, seamless, and is based on open standards

What is the reason for conducting this campaign?

Cal ITP has identified and is working to address the lack of standardization and interoperability across agencies, modes, and the broader mobility ecosystem, which creates friction for customers. The lack of a standardized database for stop amenities and associated information also creates friction for state-level analysis and planning.

This campaign's goal is to identify unmet stop-related needs that we can help with (could be related to amenities, obtaining permits from CT, others) and have funding needs related to bus stop and amenities that can benefit from CT’s and other state-level resources and assistance.

What is the goal of this campaign?

Creating a free, centralized stop database with amenity, accessibility, and related information enables a statewide picture to emerge. This should benefit state-level transit research, analysis, planning, and policy-related work. We are taking inspiration from Entur's database. But while they are volunteer-based, we want this to be more structured and mandated by CalTrans.

Who does this campaign target?

Individual agencies can utilize this as an asset management tool for their stops. Caltrans can offer this free tool to its transit agencies, particularly the small and rural operators, that do not have the resources or expertise to develop this on their own. For agencies that already have a similar capability but are paying for it, this free tool and the technical assistance they will be receiving from Caltrans can help them save money and free up their resources.

Paused until Jan. 2025. Once this is picked back up again, we will need to refresh the campaign guide before we can begin any outreach
