Given the project is looking for a new maintainer and hasn't been updated in a while, are they any forks that could be a worthy successor?

One I did look at was: https://www.npmjs.com/package/recachegoose , but there may be a better alternative?

You might take a look at my solution. I'ts written from the scratch in typescript. Supports multitenancy, deep hydration and auto-cache clearing based on mongoose events. Take a look also on the roadmap, to see what's comming next.
