Allison Tielking

I am a second-year student-athlete at Stanford University. Currently, I am pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science with a Focus in Information.
This summer, I interned at Microsoft on the Payments Team within Universal Store.

SocialQ

Created a Microsoft HoloLens application using the Windows Holographic SDK for Unity and the Microsoft Cognitive Services Emotion API, which won the Microsoft Technology Prize at CalHacks 3.0.
This application helps those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder understand social cues.

When users find it difficult or overwhelming to interpret the sentiments of others, they can activate SocialQ with a hand gesture, which interacts with an API to provide them a
brief interpretation of a selected person's facial sentiment. The interpretation is direct, but not intrusive. SocialQ functions not just as social "safety net", but as a constant
(but subtle) reinforcement tool for users who need practice recognizing different types of facial expression.

Diary App

Final project for Web Programming class, made a diary application that uses MongoDB to store entries. Created entry editing capabilities with a clean front-end design.
There is a unique journal ID for each user, and each prompt is unique for each day. Also used Node and Express to interface with server.

PhyloForest

Created PhyloForest, a Virtual Reality app that helps researchers and educators by improving how we see phylogenetic trees. This project won the Genomics Prize at Treehacks.
Strong, useful data visualization is key to new discoveries and patterns. Thanks to our product, users have a greater ability
to perceive depth of trees by communicating widths rather than lengths. The length between proteins is based on actual lengths scaled to size.

We used EggNOG to get phylogenetic trees in Newick format, then parsed them using a recursive algorithm to get the differences between the protein
group in question. We connected names to IDs using the EBI (European Bioinformatics Institute) database, then took the lengths between the proteins
and scaled them to size for our Unity environment.
