Creating Materials

Hi. I don't figured out were to put this question, so if I'm in the wrong please, please excuse me.
I'm trying to discover what happens when I save a material: is the textures I used merged into the .arm file? This is if I send this .arm file to a friend is enough to send this file or should I send the textures files attached to it.

Hi, actually you have both options. If you click export material in a material's context menu you have the option "Pack Assets".

In this case the textures are merged into the .arm file. This is also the right way to share a material with someone without having to deal with directory structures, multiple files and so on.

In case you unselect the pack option. The textures are adressed relatively to the .arm file. Example. Suppose you have

• mat.arm
• Textures
  • A.png (contained in Textures directory)

then mat.arm would reference A.png via Textures/A.png and so on. To share it with a friend you have to send him/her mat.arm and the directory structure relative to the .arm file

In practical use cases you immediately see whether assets are packed or not. If they are not, the arm file is typically relatively small (< 1MB).

I was about to try save the *.arm with boot options enabled and try to open it in a different computer.
But as you explained, I don't need to proceed.
