Apache NetBeans version

Apache NetBeans 24

What happened

Trying to install Netbeans using the file "Apache-NetBeans-24-bin-windows-x64", after a few seconds the following message appears:

The local registry "C:\users<myaccount>.nbi\registry.xml" could not be loaded, or was loaded partially. The installer can continue to work normally, but doing so may result in a corrupted global registry.

Language / Project Type / NetBeans Component

Netbeans Windows Installer

How to reproduce

To reproduce, start the installation of Netbeans 24 in the environment as mentioned above.

Did this work correctly in an earlier version?

Apache NetBeans 23

Operating System

Windows 11 24H2

JDK

Java SE version 23.0.1

Apache NetBeans packaging

Apache NetBeans provided installer

Experienced the same problem

As a workaround, try the community installers instead. The NBI infrastructure is no longer being maintained. This seems to be another reason we need to look at moving the final ASF installer off of it. Or drop ASF installers completely.

sounds like the same issue as #8049 which was reported during deinstallation.

might be windows update related since I don't think this showed up before. However, I did test the release on latest win 11 22H2 and it did work for me.

Still having same issue with

  • Windows 10 PRO 22H2 completely up to date
  • Netbeans 23 still installed
  • JDK Corretto-23.0.0.37.1 (build 23+37-FR)

Just after booting up trying to install 24 gives above notification.

Here is the logfile from .nbi\log: 20241217162419.log

Can you check the contents of that registry.xml file, and possibly share here? Might offer a clue to what's going on.

The workaround remains the same - use the community installer - sooner we can move to drop NBI for this last installer the better.

Still having same issue with

@nicolaken does "still" imply that this happened before to you in previous releases?

The problem happens in all my PCs where the OS is Windows 11 24H2; there are no problems where the OS is Windows 11 23H2.

The message that appears when I try to install Version 24 in Windows 11 24H2, also appears when I try to uninstall Version 23 on the same PC. On that PC, version 23 was installed while the OS was still Windows 11 23H2, with no problems.

There are no problems when I uninstall version 23 in Windows 11 23H2.

The solution seems to avoid upgrading Windows 11 to 24H2 or rolling back to version 23H2.

Unfortunately on many PCs that I use, the 24H2 cannot be uninstalled anymore, because the "grace period" after the upgrading has already terminated.

@alexchip64 thanks, I did suspect a recent windows update being the cause for this, since the reports showed up only recently.

I don't get the 24H2 update offered in virtualbox - but this might be due to virtualized hardware compatibility reasons. So I was never able to reproduce this issue.

No, from 22 to 23 it all went fine.
Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the fact that it still did this despite all OS updates and clean restart.

I already had looked into it, but do not have a clue at what to look at, other than seeing that it's well formed xml.

Here it is (no xml upload possible, added log extension): registry.xml.log
