manual figures

Just wondering again about figures in the manual being in the repo...

Many of the figures should be replaced/augmented in the future. It seems harder and harder to minimize file bloat, so this will lead to bigger repo downloads. That being said, we can shoot for most figures O(100s of KB) which I think is not too bad.

However I think we should consider including more movies in the doc. We need a way to include these w/o putting the full movie in the docs. Right now we just have that small plume which is 18M.

I think it'll be tricky to do this in a way that works consistently between pdf and html builds without storing the files in the repo.

We can use raw html to embed youtube videos in the html version, but not the pdf.
