Scope and Contents
Hutchison, teacher and designer of the Illinois state flag adopted in 1970, discusses her teaching experiences in the Midwest and research in flag history. She recalls her family background and Indian heritage, rural education and participation with the 4-H, college education in home economics at Oklahoma A&M, Depression and Farm Security Administration programs, marriage, raising her family while working, and the WWII home-front. She also discusses teaching in Missouri and Illinois,
history of flags, and designing the Illinois state flag.
