This question has been posted in a number of forums but the solutions are unacceptable and/or non-functional. Perhaps one of the most basic needed functions in ggtree is to color tip labels and create a corresponding legend. The default behavior creates an unacceptable legend that contains lines and letters. Currently, the only way to get around this is to go through various, ridiculous machinations to try and override this default and force the creation of a new legend that is workable. I am an experienced R programmer and have now spent almost two hours (unsuccessfully) researching various possible solutions to try and force the program to accomplish this most basic of functions. This is unacceptable and needs to be fixed.
