The result look quite nice, but it seem that the most concerned problem is the noise level amplification caused by the process. I don't know if this can help but I found the regrain process is extremely useful in lower the noise level the match that of the original image. I have found an implementation of it with Python, which can be seen here: https://github.com/pengbo-learn/python-color-transfer/blob/master/python_color_transfer/color_transfer.py. As I'm not able to test this right now, I would just leave it here so anyone interested can try this out. If I have the time, I'll test it and report here.
