[Minecraft 1.12.2, ic2 2.2.999] empty upgrade container in macerator making minecraft not respond

When you put in an empty container in a powered macerator in a creative single player world while in creative, minecraft stops responding. The only way to fix it for me was to F4 out of minecraft and start a new client.
