How to properly install IM binaries on another machine after imei build?

Hi imei community,

thanks to the great work of SoftCreatR i was able to build ImageMaghick 7 with jxl support on a Ubuntu 22.04 VM. Now i wish to install the resulting binaries on another machine, also running Ubuntu 22.04. But on this machine it's not desirable to install all those development packages that are required for a local build.

What is the proper way to make a binary package after an imei build?

Can anyone point me to the right direction please?

You can try the checkinstall method, and move the resulting deb files to the 2nd machine, and install them.

I used checkinstall before but never found that deb files. After your hint i figured out that i should look also in /usr/local/src instead of the imei and build folder only.

Now i moved the 4 debs to the target, during install a few additional libs were required but that was easy to fix without installing the whole build environment.

OT: We have not yet planted new trees but we try to save some trees in our use case with forest fire detection and tree health monitoring, using cameras in different spectral bands. imei-ImageMagick and jxl helps us to reduce bandwith when we move tons of 12MP images via 4G/5G mobile network.
