If NumberingZone covers only PageNumbers it should perhaps more precisely be name PageNumberZone. There are lots of other potential numbers, such as chapter numbers in the margins etc, quires can be indicated by numbers, so there is an overlap with QuireMarksZone

Add those as subtypes to Numbering ? or rename it ? @gabays , what do you think ?

It is true that it is rather unprecise, compared to QuireMarks… I would add, however, that our annotation being rather codicological, Numbering refers more to the pagination or the foliation than more semantic stuff such as chapters… Which is why possible values, in my head, are:

  • NumberingZone:page
  • NumberingZone:folio

Please feel free to upload examples we could use in our guidelines to be more precise
