Prize Title

Video Explanation of Data Dignity

Prize Bounty

DAI 200

Challenge Description

Why
Data has become perhaps the most valuable commodity in the world – yet every day we give it away for free to large corporations and others who reap most of the rewards. We believe it is time for a rethink. For us, generating data as we go through our daily lives is a kind of labor. Not only should it be compensated, but we should be able to collectively bargain for a fair data wage. That is why we advocate for radically new data policies that both reflect this new environment and try to strike a better balance between the needs of a data economy and the interests of data producers.

What
To encourage broader recognition and implementation of Data Dignity more people need to learn about its underlying reasoning as well as advantages compared to omnipresent surveillance capitalism. In this challenge, we ask you to create an entertaining two-minutes or less video that helps people understand the concept and benefits of Data Dignity. The winning video will serve as one of the major sources for introductory information about Data Dignity.

We are open to all kinds of approaches but want you to comply with our design guidelines in case you add self-made animations or text. Here are the corresponding design guidelines. Let us know if we can help you find the colors and fonts.

Background

Submission Requirements

The video format should be 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second. The duration should not exceed two minutes.

Ideally, you will upload your video to a dedicated Google Drive and submit the corresponding link. Alternatively, we will accept submissions via other cloud providers as well.

The RadicalxChange Foundation reserves all rights for further use of the winning video in this challenge, with due credit of course.

Submission Deadline

All submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (ET) on June 10th, 2020 to be considered.

Judging Criteria

We are looking for a coherent video explanation of Data Dignity that we can flexibly fit into different channels at the RadicalxChange Foundation. We will award the prize to the individual / team that produces the most compelling and entertaining video explanation in line with our design guidelines.

Winner Announcement Date

We will assess submissions from June 11th to 17th, 2020. Winners will be announced by 11:59 PM (ET) on June 17th, 2020.

Work has been started.

These users each claimed they can complete the work by 1 year, 8 months ago.
Please review their action plans below:

1) zak102 has started work.

l will create a video to introduce some information about Data Dignity and its imprtance
2) motanovici has started work.

My approach is based on a Divide and Conquer method, followed by merging. I shall tackle the problem of data labor and acquisition from the perspectives of all participants , then putting them together into a coherent whole, concluding why data must be valued by all, regulated by a Coalition serving these interests.
3) hamzaghz has started work.

I will read all the data, then will generate a coherent script, concluding why data must be valued by its producers, what to do to create a lobby which could defend data producers' interests.
4) nestorbonilla has started work.

The video will aim to be concise, full of animation, and intended for an audience without knowledge of these topics, guiding them in storytelling until we explain the central concept of Data Dignity.
