This should be easier to reproduce using a virtual machine. Setting the niceness level to -20 for both the front- and backend does not help.

It's possible to come up with any problem you can imagine using a virtual machine, I think we should somehow discourage that in production environments and try to implement testing around some sort of virtualization.
