Instead of:
Why not something like this:
Where each white square is an icon. Clicking the icon opens the site in a new tab / in current tab (as per user preference).
This could be a third bookmark widget option.
Much more compact - allows for much more links to be displayed.
Even better - why not read in the bookmarks to display from a user-specified bookmarks folder?
This could be the Bookmarks Menu, or a specific folder in the Bookmarks Toolbar, etc...
This makes the list much easier to maintain, and instantly solves the issue of mismatched new tab shortcuts between desktops, mobiles, etc...
