Have you looked into other ways to strengthen our content distribution? So far what I know:

  • ATM we primarily use traditional CDN via CloudFront
  • IPFS has issues and thus isn't competitive out of the box

  • traditional torrent (gotcha: maximum torrent size is @~ 200 GiB)

  • syncthing

  • tahoe-lafs

  • rsync (this is currently active @ cache.rrza.de)

I am still looking for a maintainer to take over. Please contact me if interested. I'll do a proper handover and will walk you through the components. Otherwise the service will go down in a few weeks (too expensive for me for the current users / interest).

@mguentner: I'm sorry for being so late. I certainly am interested in the scripts and ideas (etc.) used in there, but at least in this initial phase it's probably not worth paying (much) for the service.

My very preliminary plan is (hopefully I'll get enough time) to continue experiments on some machine(s) that don't require much money, starting with one of mine that runs anyway, while gradually figuring out how this "other binary cache" would best work for us (nixos.org).
