Can't extract items from centrifuge

I may just be doing something wrong here, but I can't seem to extract items from the centrifuge without manually right-clicking on it. Pulling out fluids with pipes works fine, and I can insert items without issue, but the only way for me to get the items back out is to right-click on the centrifuge. I've tried andesite and brass funnels, chutes and smart chutes, and hoppers, and none of them are extracting any items from any of the 9-square-block hitbox of the centrifuge, neither while it's running nor when it's stopped. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Using Vintage Improvements 0.2.0.3 for Forge 47.3.11 on Minecraft 1.20.1.
