I think a great improvement to the forum system would be if a forum has the option "display topics as news posts on home page" enabled, when creating a new topic there would be an option to upload a post cover image. This image would be displayed at the top of the image, and could be used by template creators like me to create a home page that looks something like ghost (nicer and cleaner than the current look) while still keeping the forums system. Users also wouldn't have to upload an image, but they could if they wanted.
