Hi, is it possible to define multiple (background) maps? For example, the default background map and in addition a custom map (effectively using this as an overlay map)? This would greatly enhance the possibilities for story telling. Example would be to have the default background map, and an additional custom map with floodrisk areas.

StoryMapJS is not designed to expose the internal map for users to manipulate. We agree that it would be handy, but it would involve substantial refactoring of the library, which isn't on our roadmap right now.
The workaround, until such time as that refactoring happens, would be to use a provider that supports making custom base layers that, in effect, composite the different layers. I think you could probably do it with Mapbox.
