Kodi Add-ons and questions on potential for Other Apps install. #157
Comments
Thanks for the nice feedback! I created this project to learn about iOS
jailbreaking and I realise the jailbreak itself isn't too useful at the
moment - so I've been developing a new App Store/Package Manager and an IDE
that can be used to create/port apps to ATV 2/3. This includes project
templates for apps (Native), games (SpriteKit/Cocos2D), OpenGL apps,
webapps, tweaks and the ability to deploy directly to the device as if
you're using xcode. It will allow you to install existing ATV2 apps/tweaks
also. I've made a lot of progress on it so far, but I'm not exactly sure
when I'll be finished (within the next few months I'm sure). I'm hoping to
release it with a handful of new apps. I'll look into porting apps like
Jellyfin to the webapp template once it's released. Anyone who wants to
assist can DM me on discord @NSSpiral.

I want to preface this by saying that this by saying that this jailbreak
is really awesome. The fact that a relative novice like me can easily
install it on my Apple TV 3 and the fact that it has such a nice GUI is
awesome. Unfortunately, after getting Kodi on the device I haven't found
much that I can do with it. After doing some research it is clear that Kodi
14.2 is very out of date and I can't really get any good info on what I can
do with it still. I tried adding the Superrepo and stuff but I couldn't get
it to work at all. It also seems like nitotv might no longer exist for
Apple TV 3 but I'm not sure. This means that despite the jailbreak being
amazing, I'm not sure if you can really use it for much right now. Though I
might be to much of a novice to understand.
My main question is, is there anyway to install another app other than
Kodi? How hard would it be to modify this repo to do so? Say I wanted to
try and install Jellyfin or something, what would I need to do? Would
jellyfin be to hard to run on this older hardware?
Sorry for all the questions, if you have a good resource please point me
to it! I really want to learn and contribute to this awesome project but as
of now as far as I can tell the Jailbreak doesn't really allow you to do
much. I'd love to see this project do more!
Thanks for the project you've made!

That sounds amazing! Thank you so much for the work that you are doing! |
This is great too. |
Hey just wondering if anyone does have any suggestions for any good Kodi plugins that work on Apple TV. Also looking forward to whatever solutions you have to installing apps in the future! |
Hi all, I tried Backb0x for the first time on an ATV 3 and it works great. However Kodi seems really useless. I was not able to get Plug-ins running. Not even with manual install due to missing dependencies and other errors. I also was not able to connect to an SMB share. So the option of installing native apps developed for legacy ATV is very exiting. Looking forward to that. Do you have any socials to follow the progress? |
Any update on your new project? Sounds exciting, I'd offer to help but it is well above my pay grade |
