UR Finding: Users would like auto-suggestions for content when searching content - similar to Netflix viewing suggestions #414

Oculus Browser does a good job of this. And there are some nice designs done by Nadja and Jenni that could be explored in the implementation here. I think we could get even fancier and include favicons, titles, etc. I know that, at least in the US, desktop Firefox uses Google's Search Suggestions API. Does anyone know whom we talk to about possibly using that API or rolling our own? To start prototyping, we could create a small REST API endpoint hosted on the Content Feed. I already have a curated (by-region) list of (2D and VR portals) Top Sites (merged with the lists from Firefox for iOS and Android) and the known WebVR Sites/Experiences we could start with. |
@thenadj: is the design spec for Search Suggestions / "Awesomebar" ready for implementation? I see it in Trello but did not want to link to it if it's premature. but I would be interested in working on the implementation in the near future, if the Design is ready. thanks! |
@cvan UIS-21 has lots of URL bar interactions. This spec is ready for implementation. |
@avrignaud Do you want us to add this to the v1.1 priority list and get started on the design? |
@thenadj To differentiate, we should add the "Firefox Awesome Bar" autocomplete/suggestions to the UI spec for bookmarks/history (the discussion this AM). I think this bug is about having suggestions made when users are searching the FxR content feed. Also valuable, but I don't think that's a 1.1 feature. |
Awesome bar will be addressed in issue: #635 |
Possible use-case for Pocket's suggestion engine? See #397. |

Perhaps when searching content feed in future (when we have sufficient volume)?
