Actually you can collapse the view with setText():

@Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
    SparseBooleanArray mTogglePositions = new SparseBooleanArray(); // leave it empty to collapse
    holder.content.setText(someText, mTogglePositions, position); 
}
