Not much but I leave this open as I would too love to see this implemented in 
emulators for consoles.

As far as I know, the author of Frodo Wii is hosting a server to deals with 
remote connections and also is sending sound & display frames through his 
network. I was more thinking in a P2P solution like Kega is doing, with only 
controller inputs being exchanged and some advanced (re)sync.

Netplay is actually possible right now with the libretro port of Genesis Plus 
GX - on PCs though, consoles don't (yet) have any sort of LAN/netplay (but that 
might change depending on what kind of performance I can get out of them).
