Thread deletion process gets paused or stopped #1

It seems that the thread deletion process gets paused or stopped in some cases (after too long inactivity periods?). But not always after screen being turned off (either explicitly or by timeout).

Sometimes it seems to resume upon reopening the app, sometimes – not.

Is creating a service for the deletion process is the solution?
