    "# Acquiring Aerial Photos\n",

    "### Why describe how to obtain real images?\n",
    "\n",
    "In case you want to acquire REAL fire related images do drive this project further or to reproduce what I described in my blog, I am detailing the steps needs and websites or software I found to be valuable.\n",
    "\n",
    "These methods and geo locations are what I used to develop this article, [\"Predicting Forest Fires Using PyTorch\"](https://medium.com/@zmadscientist/predict-forest-fires-using-pytorch-333e3d6f01ac)\n",

    "### What sources can provide such data?\n",
    "\n",
    "Maps can be viewed though a variety of online providers:\n",
    "- US Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Explorer (see figure above)\n",
    "- ArcGIS\n",
    "- Google Earth Engine\n",
    "- Bing\n",
    "\n",
    "#### Generally - Maps should be aerial photo level views of the ground, looking straight down not at any arbitrary angle.\n",
    "\n",

    "\n",
    "\n",
    "For  the code editor in Earth Engine you can start with this simple JavaScript to jump to a candidate image from Northern California which is near Paradise, CA which was devastated by the fire in 2018.\n",
    "\n",

    "## USGS Earth Explorer\n",

    "Can be used to research and download various mapping products including USDA/NAIP/DOQQ aerial photos. Aerial photos can be downloaded once you have registered. The US Geological Survey (USGS) does not own these images but they provide access to other government and commercial images and datasets with permissive licenses such as USDA/NAIP/DOQQ. The USGS do not seem to support MODIS directly but provide other government links to do so.\n",
